“Dancing is a relatively safe form of intoxication.” – Copeland & Cohen
Confidance Studio traveled to Scottsdale in May. I was part of the entourage and all of us did well! This is my second mainland competition and I wasn’t AS nervous as the first.
It’s so much fun to travel with a group of fun ladies AND Carlos! We stayed at the Kierland Westin Resort & Spa. The lobby was busy with women dressed in so much bling, bright dresses, fake eye-lashes, lots of make-up.. and tanned legs
The top pic of this post is a warm-up shot. We arrived Thursday morning and my first performance was Thursday evening. I bring my leg warmers everywhere, and I’ve kept it on me since the early morning. Flying and staying still on the airplane can stiffen the legs and body. So, it’s always best to be prepared with leg warmers and leg exercises!
I roomed with Teri. She’s one of the nicest people I know! She took these pics (top 2) . These are all warm-up clothes and leggings. I enjoy shopping for warm-up clothes because:

1) They’re not as expensive as the performance dresses;
2)You can mix and match with wild colors and textures and wear them in public and people will say or think, “Oh, she’s a dancer! That’s why she’s dressed like that.”; and
3) They’re comfortable & cute!
And on to the performances…
I liken ballroom dancing to boxing because you need fast feet, you have another body you’re dancing with and you wear robes before you get into the dance/match. Yes, robes. I assume you wear robes to keep your body warm. Sometimes, I think women wear the robes to hide their dresses so that they provide an “shock & awe” factor before they step on the dance floor. I don’t know. My reason for a robe is to keep me warm.
So, I wore a simple black long-sleeve dress with an assymetrical bottom line. Quite short but classy. The dress is featured in one of the older posts here. I haven’t purchased a new dress that I liked. All the dresses I’ve bought/returned and attempted to make were disasters.
I’m wearing a robe (I’m serious about this robe factor in the dancing world) over the dress. I have a mini helmet top for a hair-do with a tight pony tail. I have round diamond earrings and a very fake diamond bangle (lighting provides additional *bling* when you wear sparkly dresses and jewelry).
I danced on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Geoffrey Fells of Dance News of the Pacific blogged about the event and results. Read it right here:
